Tom ZipfelBiography

Thomas C. Zipfel has been a resident of Hatfield Township since 1996.  Tom believes in giving back to the community, and since 1996 he has been actively involved as a volunteer at the Support Center for Child Advocates; a center that provides legal assistance for abused and neglected children in Philadelphia.  Before holding the position of Commissioner for the 4th Ward, Tom served as secretary for the Hatfield Township Civil Service Commission and was heavily involved with the Hatfield Park Commission, serving as a member and then the Commission’s Treasurer for many years.  

Prior to his current role as Vice President of Labor Relations for a national company, Tom was General Counsel for two local construction companies and was appointed and served as Chief Counsel for the PA Department of Labor and Industry.  He received his bachelor's degree in political science from Villanova University, and went on to attend Widener University Commonwealth Law School.

The Philadelphia Business Journal named Tom a recipient of the 15th annual “40 Under 40” award.  Tom was previously a member of Associated Builders and Contractors, and the Montgomery County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations.  

Tom and his wife, Sue, enjoy raising their two children, Maggie and Owen, in Hatfield Township. For more than 20 years, Tom shared his zeal for sports with many young athletes in the Hatfield area as a volunteer basketball, baseball, soccer and softball coach.

Tom was elected by the Commissioners to be the President of the Board and began his fourth term in office in 2022.
